Class Reflections (Teaching the Language Skills/Week5-2/9/2009)

This week the class was focessed on teaching grammar and teaching vocabulary. Teaching grammar has always been questioned while teaching vocabulary always has been considered a self study. In my opinion these are two essential skills for English learners and according to students needs teachers should benefit from both of them. In terms of teaching vocabulary Diana's presentation was useful because I strongly believe that it is helpful to expose students to new vocabularies many times in different contexts so that they can acquire them unconciously. To me vocabularies need to be acquired more than learned. According to me my experience and also researches support this view to the word list are not useful at all.
