Class Time Reflection (Teachers and Their Classrooms/Week4-2/2/2009)

In terms of cross-cultural communication "waiting time" was a kind of interesting for me because I realized that Mediterranean countries' people are relax so they do not wait 30 seconds. For instance I have been in Spain two times although my Spanish was not good enough people were so friendly and relax that you can communicate easily. I mean Spanish attitudes encourage you a lot to keep on communicating.
Another point that I realized during the class was proverbs. In Turkish we support our thesis by proverbs, I have not seen any sample of this here.
In the "apple book" it is stated that American people would mostly say "no" to the question of "Can I borrow your notes?" I was surprised when I heard that most of our classmates' answer would be "yes", that is really impressive.

I think "wait time" will be very hard for me. Is that the same for you? Spanish culture seems to be very friendly and encouraging of communication. Is that the same for Turkey?

I think the reason the book said Americans might say "no" is because of the culture of competition. If a teacher is grading on a curve, a fellow student may not want to give their classmate an anvantage. Maybe.

I still can't imagine that many people won't share their notes, notes aren't the answers to the tests...they are a tool to work with. Anyone want to borrow a hammer?
