Assigned Reading Reflection (Language Assessment: Principles and Issues/Dec.1/Week15)
I think firstly the difference between testing and assessment is worth to be highlighted and it should be double considered by ESOL teachers. Realizing the difference between testing and assessment which is testing is basically measuring a person's knowledge or proficiency on the other hand assessment is described as an ongoing process of teaching activity is helpful for ESOL teachers. Furthermore, principles of language assessment are another crucial issue for ESOL teachers to be considered. Among those five basic principles of language assessment principles “1)Practicality 2)Reliability 3) Validity 4) Authenticity and 5) Wash back- wash back grasp my interest since it is a kind of reflections in terms of feed back to decision makers about whether the intended aims are obtained or not so this principle is significant. Finally since testing and assessment seems to terrify students and they are considered as a disadvantage a successful ESOL teacher can shift it to an advantage by knowing the difference between them.
