By presenting the 12 fundamental principles of language learning and teaching H. Douglas Brown aim is to help us to construct our own approach among a great numbers of approaches we have faced during the long journey of language learning. The three category of this principles-cognitive, socioaffective and linguistic- help us to capture them as a whole. Since my teaching experiences strongly support, I highlighted meaningful learning and the anticipation of reward among the cognitive principles. Willingness to communicate can be related to motivation and motivation is considered to be one of the most important parts of language learning process. In terms of linguistic the native language effect is worth to discuss here if native language is close to the target language it might be so useful on the other hand if it is not within the same language family it might even affect the learning negatively.
I believe that intrinsic motivation is very important in the language learning process because it helps learner to develop himself continuously. An ESL teachers must be lucky if he has such kind of learners in his/her class if not teacher has to motivate them by using a number of methods to motivate them extrinsically.

You are very right about about an ESL teacher being lucky when their learners are intrinsically motivated.
My dream is always that language learners want it...ok, they don't. I think finding the correct kinds of motivators for our students will be one of our biggest challenges.
I appreciate your summary and the glimpses of your personal experience, but would love to read more about your personal experience/opinions/thoughts as they relate to the content you have read.
